I just had a weekend staycation at Meritus Mandarin. I have previously stayed in Marina Mandarin hotel and was looking forward to staying right in the heart of orchard road. So down to the facts first. The hotel is huge with 2 wings, the main tower and the orchard towel. Because of this, there are 3 to 4 sets of lifts which can be confusing initially. The staff probably understands this and will approach you to ask if you need help if you look a little lost.

The hotel was renovated recently with the addition of the Mandarin Gallery shopping arcade. Because of this, they have moved their hotel lobby from the first level to level 5. I used to marvel at the grandness of the old lobby and it’s a pity that this is now replaced by a shopping area. I stayed in the Main wing of the Mandarin Orchard hotel which I personally like better as it faces away from Orchard road which can be noisy late into the night.

The check in staff are friendly and efficient although there is almost always a queue of about 5 to 15 mins.

Meritus Mandarin Orchard hotel Room

The room was big. Despite having a huge comfy king size bed, the room looks spacious and has ample walking space. My room’s glass panels opens a view into the marina area and the view was nothing short of fantastic. The study table provided was standard in most hotel but there were not writing instruments provided on check in. Bathrobes and room slippers were provided but are nothing to rave about.

The Bed itself is huge and comfy is of the Simmons Brand. The best things about the bed are the soft silky sheets and the elongated pillows of which each pillow will span half the king size bed.

The bathroom was big with 2 wash basins provided. There was a bidet provided which I’ve never used. My complain is that there is no separate shower cubicle and climbing in and out of the bath tub for shower may pose a problem for the older folks. Bath ammenitis provided were of normal quality. The Bath towels were huge and fluffy and is an enjoyment to use. The bath rug is soft, thick and fluffy unlike most of the thinner less fluffy bath rug that most 5 star hotels provide.

My room package did not come with breakfast so I can’t comment on the food. But there are more than enough variety of good in the surrounding orchard belt that I didn’t feel a need to use the hotel restaurants.

Overall impression of Meritus Madarin Orchard Hotel

The stay has been wonderful. The most important thing in a hotel : cleaniness and a good bed are both met beyond my expectation in the Meritus Mandarin Orchard hotel. Negatives include not having seperate bath cubicles but that is fine for me since my partner and I do not have any mobility issue. Given it’s central location and good service, I would return again for a staycation in the future.
